Does your band have a Spotify canvas?
Spotify Canvas
You’ve maybe seen little animations or films if you stream music; the short looping videos that some songs have as a little bit extra from the band.
That 3 to 8 second snippet of video is called a Canvas.
Spotify say this about their Canvas feature: Engage your fans in a whole new way with Canvas, a short looping visual you can add to each of your tracks on Spotify. It’s album artwork, for the streaming age. More from Spotify here: https://canvas.spotify.com/en-us
Spotify claims that beta testing of high-quality Canvases increased:
- track shares by an average of 145%
- playlist adds by 20%
- streams by 5%
- and profile visits by 9%
There are a few things to consider when making a looping video. As it loops you can use this to your advantage, for example you could make it a seamless loop, or have a sudden stop and restart.
If you’re making canvasses for an album would you want a story that continues through each track in 3 to 8s instalments?
Whatever you decide, remember it is a very short video so lots of flashing can get a bit much, but hey, it’s your music and maybe a strobing effect really represents you.
There are some specific settings needed in your editing software before Spotify can accept the videos, these include a 9:16 aspect ratio, at least 720px height and between 3 and 8s duration, but if that’s all a bit techy, why not get in touch? Hovaloft have produced several canvases on Spotify, you can see some examples here: https://youtu.be/jGHGboXl5fk and we would love to help you showcase your music to get the most from the Spotify.
